Heather Kennington Music Studio – Policies

Lesson Schedule

Weekly, 30-minutes lessons except for major holidays or big school events, such as Spring Break. Holidays with no lessons: Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, 24th of July, Labor Day, Fall Break, Halloween, Election Day, Thanksgiving, and half of December through New Year’s. I will also let students know when my scheduled family vacations will be.

Tuition

Tuition is charged on a monthly basis, $15/lesson. A yearly additional materials fee of $15/student will be added to February’s tuition. A small fee of $5 per student is charged for each recital. This is due a month before each recital.

Payment

Venmo payments will now be due at the beginning of the month.

  • If a class is missed, payment for that class can be applied to the following month. I understand needing to miss for illness and unexpected events and have been so appreciative of how well kids attend!
  • If you know of trips or other significant plans that your student has, another day may be scheduled on a case-by-case basis.

Practice

Children mark practiced days on their weekly lesson sheet. They are asked to practice 4 or more times a week. Having them marked is required to earn Piano Store Bucks and are used to buy prizes from the Piano Store. They earn them by days practiced and also by days attended. It is something they all look forward to. 🙂

Books and Materials

  • Students should bring their white binder to each lesson. Lessons, activities, and music will be put into this binder.
  • Each student should also have access to a working metronome – Amazon has good options, or you can find a metronome app for free on your phone.
  • When a new book or piece of music is need, I will notify the parent of what to purchase. Most music can be found for reasonable prices on Amazon or at local music stores.
  • At times, I may lend the student music from my own library for certain occasions such as recitals.

Recitals

This year we will have two recitals – one in the Spring, and another in the Fall. Official dates and locations to be announced at a later time. Recital participation is expected, and all students will be working to perform a memorized, polished piece in each recital. Younger students may still feel the need to use their music and I will work to help them feel prepared and comfortable for their performance.

Etiquette and Illness

Please do not have your child come to lessons if they are sick. A Zoom/FaceTime lesson, or week off, might be a better option. Any materials they might need from my studio can be picked up before or after the lesson – I will let you know if this is needed.

Having clean hands and clean feet/socks on is also a polite gesture before coming to class.
